The Open Water Dives series draws on the experience of diving into open waters. Here the surface light fades and the deep closes in around you. Layers of navy, ink and slate are crossed by fine fractures, like light breaking on moving water, while a pale glow at the centre recalls the last trace of sunlight from above. Against this darkness, sudden flashes of red burst out like coral, fish or a heartbeat in the silence. It is a work about depth, stillness and the thrill of the unknown.
