New Work
Ecce Homo, Ecce Dolor
Part of his New Icons series, in this work Papadopoulos departs from traditional Byzantine iconography and portraiture in general. Through his signature technique of breaking, painting, and laminating glass, this dual-sided portrait shows the public presentation of the soon-to-be-crucified Christ on one side and, on the reverse, an intimate, never-before-seen view of the man’s gaze as he asks for his suffering to be shortened.
